Is the Banting diet method healthy and efficient for reducing body fat?

Much like the Atkins and Paleo Diet, Banting encourages the consumption of dietary fat as the bodies primary energy substrate. High fat, low carbohydrate diets are renowned for their effectiveness at reducing fat mass by using stored body fat as its primary fuel due to the scarcity of carbohydrate. They indulged heavily in red meat and cheeses because they were rich sources of fat. The quality of fats from these sources arent the best however. This will ensure a well rounded consumption of fats with more than enough protein. You would also want to include a hefty amount of veg (especially greens) which aid with the digestion of protein rich foods. You can do these diets long term but there are critics which say otherwise due to the lack of carbohydrate which supplies rich sources of fibre, unique blends of vitamins and minerals, especially grains which supports things like brain function and cardiovascular health. http://www.sciencedirect.com/sci… I personally eat very little carbohydrate and have done for a year or so and have noticed no downside in cognitive performance, if anything an improvement, but thats just me. Find what works best for you.  Bottom Line – it is an effective means of losing weight. If sources of fats are varied and not uniquely from animal sources then the diet is far more sustainable. You may find that once you have achieved your ideal weight you could slip a little carbohydrate back in if you wish.
